9ct Gold Hand Painted Miniature Portrait Locket
An incredibly detailed, hand painted, miniature portrait of a woman enclosed inside a 9ct gold (stamped) locket. The front has the monogrammed initials “ERM” however, the order of the initials are difficult to accurately confirm.
The reverse of the locket contains a hand engraved cursive phrase that reads “All in All or Nothing at all” . The locket is stamped “9” on the inside to indicate the gold purity. The quality of painting makes it almost look like a photograph at first glance - however, upon further inspection, you can see the single detailed brushstrokes from the artist.
The portrait of the woman inside is a particularly fine painting. It was more than likely painted with a brush containing a single rat hair to achieve the precise details - this was also believed to be the case by the original seller.
A true victorian treasure that showcases original hallmarks, monograms, love expressions, and even a miniature painting.
Materials: 9 Karat Gold (stamped), watercolour painting on paper.
Era: Victorian (1837-1901)
Size: 35mm wide X 38mm long (not including gold bale)
Overall weight is 15.6 grams.
Condition Report:
In original antique condition. Some scratches as to be expected. Deliberately left uncleaned and unpolished. Fantastic condition overall.
